She has related the story of receiving a phone call from a journalist who asked her if she was "the daughter of Laurel and Hardy."

She was married to Rand Brooks, who played Scarlett O'Hara's first husband, Charles, in Gone With The Wind (1939), then sidekick Lucky Jenkins in the Hopalong Cassidy western series. She then married writer-actor Tony Hawes.

Lois Laurel was the only daughter of Stan Laurel. Her mother was the first of the comedian's four wife's, silent movie actress Lois Neilson.

A mid-'90s video re-release of several Laurel and Hardy films began with a montage of photographs and home movies of the pair, with narration by Lois.
