Banjong Pisanthanakun is a highly acclaimed Thai filmmaker and screenwriter widely recognized as one of Southeast Asia's premier genre directors. He graduated from Chulalongkorn University with a major in Film and Photography and began his cinematic journey directing short films. He rapidly gained international fame by crafting some of the most influential horror and blockbusters movies in modern Asian cinema.
He made a historic directorial debut with the smash-hit supernatural horror film Shutter (2004), which he co-directed and co-wrote with Parkpoom Wongpoom. The movie became a massive box office success, established a defining wave for Thai horror cinema worldwide, and eventually earned a Hollywood remake. He followed this triumph with the hit thriller Alone (2007), further cementing his reputation as a master of psychological dread.
