Brazilian filmmaker, screenwriter, editor, actor and composer Caetano Gotardo studied cinema at the University of São Paulo. He has directed several award-winning short films, including Sand, which opened Cannes Critics’ Week in 2008. His first two features, The Moving Creatures and Your Bones and Your Eyes, screened at festivals around the world to strong critical acclaim, establishing his distinctive interest in how characters reveal themselves through language, gesture and movement. Gotardo is a member of Filmes do Caixote, a collective of Brazilian filmmakers who have collaborated since film school. As an editor, he worked on Marco Dutra and Juliana Rojas’s features Hard Labor and Good Manners. His screenwriting credits include Dutra’s The Silence of the Sky and Bury Your Dead. In 2020, All the Dead Ones, co-written and co-directed with Marco Dutra, premiered in Competition at the Berlin International Film Festival. Gotardo and Dutra also created and directed the television series Noturnos. His subsequent features include You Burn Us and A Moving Mountain. His sixth feature, The Gentle Ghosts, premiered in the Caleidoscópio section of the Brasília Film Festival.
