Biography

Jawara Fragher grew up with a deep passion for both basketball and cinema, two influences that shaped his creative voice early on. After earning his associate degree, he answered a higher calling and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 2002, where he served with distinction for two decades. During his military career, Jawara continued to advance his education, completing both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Following his honorable retirement in 2022, Jawara transformed his lifelong love of storytelling into a filmmaking career. Drawing inspiration from his personal experiences and the vibrant, culturally rich environment of Staten Island where he was raised, he began writing a collection of original screenplays.

Jawara later directed and produced Hoop Realities 2.0 and the documentary New Dorp: It’s Central Time. Both films earned multiple accolades, including, Finalist at the East Village New York Film Festival, Official Selection for the New York Monthly Awards (January 2026), Philadelphia Film Awards, Award Winner at the Gothamite Monthly Film Awards, and SemiFinalist at the Dumbo Film Festival.
