Biography

Patrícia Nogueira (Porto, Portugal) is a documentary filmmaker, producing and directing her own documentaries and working regularly in other directors' films, both documentary and fiction. Documentary was the way she chose to express herself about the surrounding world and her inner concerns. In her first feature documentary, 3 Hours to Love, Patricia pursues her favorite topic and tries to engage audiences with women's emotions and sexuality. The film won the award for Best Documentary at Viana do Castelo Film Meetings (2013) and was officially selected for DocLisboa (2013), Cine Las Americas, at USA (2014), FEST (2014), Berlin Feminist Film Week (2015) and Women's Voices Now Film Festival, in L.A., USA (2016).

Patrícia is a doctoral candidate in Digital Media (awaiting defense), under the UT Austin-Portugal International Program, and a fellow researcher from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, researching audience in interactive documentary. Under her PhD, during 2015 she was a visiting filmmaker at the National Film Board of Canada. Her research interests are focused on Feminist Film Studies, Issues of Representation, Spectatorship and Digital Environments. She is a Deputy-Chair of the research work group Cinema and Contemporary Visual Arts, under NECS - The European Network for Cinema and Media Studies.

She also has a MFA in Documentary Film from the School of Music Arts and Performing Arts (Porto, Portugal) and is an Assistant Professor both at the School of Media Arts and Design (IPPorto, Portugal), teaching Documentary Film and supervising graduate students, and at ISMAI (Maia, Portugal), teaching courses as Directing, Editing, and Semiotics.
