Biography

Longtime Communist activist turned conservative and author of such books as "Destructive Generation," "Radical Son," "Hating Whitey and Other Progressive Causes," "Uncivil Wars: The Controversy Over Reparations for Slavery," "Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left," "The Anti-Chomsky Reader," "Left Illusions: An Intellectual Odyssey" and "The Politics of Bad Faith." He was also the editor of the conservative online magazine FrontPage.com and the president of the Center for the Study of Popular Culture.

He was a supporter of Students for Academic Freedom and the author (and primary backer) of the Academic Bill of Rights, both of which seek to protect the rights of conservative students to voice their opinions on campus free of harrassment by faculty and fellow student activists and to promote a more ideologically balanced and diverse academic environment.

Was attacked with pie in the face by left-wing activists during a lecture given at Butler University. Said Horowitz afterward, "There's a wave of violence on college campuses, committed by what I'd call fascists opposing conservatives. It's one step from that to injury." The incident, which happened just days after similar incidents occurred during speeches given by conservative commentators Pat Buchanan (at West Michigan University) and Bill Kristol (at Earlham College, also in Indiana), was denounced as "deplorable" by Butler University spokesman Marc Allan.
