Tan Hoang Thong is a young director based in Ho Chi Minh City. He entered the industry in 2014 as a Production Assistant for CJ Foundation’s ToTo program. After studying aesthetics in South Korea, he made first film in 2018 with the short "Melancholy", which was the opening film at the Autumn Meeting 2018. In 2022, the "Melancholy" screened at the Busan International Short Film Festival's "Hub of Asia Cinematique," earning critical acclaim.
Thong graduated from the Busan Asian Film School (AFiS) on a full scholarship. In 2025, he released his ultra-low-budget feature debut, "The Silent Game", via Lotte Entertainment, gaining hands-on commercial experience. He then collaborated with Khuong Ngoc to direct "Luck for Salle", produced by Mockingbird Pictures & VIC-N Studio, distributed by CGV, slated for release in September 2026.
Outside of refining his cinematic language, Thong draws inspiration from literature and graphic novels.
