Biography

Dina Farouk

Biography

  • Few are lucky enough to collaborate with major filmmakers in their early careers; however talented Film Editor Dina Farouk is one of those lucky few. After she started her career working as an assistant editor to some of Egypt's most experienced film editors, Farouk had the opportunity to work as an editor with veteran director Samir Seif in his film Ma'ali Al Wazir (His Excellency the Minister), featuring superstar Ahmed Zaki. It's said that a film gets directed for the second time in the editing studio, that's why directors search for a professional talented film editor who can get the job perfectly done. In a short span of time, Dina Farouk's distinctive and accurate editing style made her directors' first choice. Farouk started out cutting films while still studying Video and Film Editing at Egypt's Higher Institute of Cinema, from which she graduated in 1995. From 1993 till 2001, she worked as an assistant editor with some of the most important film editors, including Adel Mounir and Rashida Abdel Salam. After editing her first film Ma'ali Al Wazir by director Samir Seif in 2002, she collaborated with a number of extraordinary Egyptian filmmakers, such as Mohamed Khan, Mohamed Abou-Seif, Osama Fawzy, Khaled El Hagar, and Kamla Abouzekri. Dina also collaborated with a number of independent filmmakers. Furthermore, Farouk edited a number of TV series, such as El Gama'a in 2010. In 2007, Dina broke into the film production business by starting her company WIKA for Film Production and Distribution. In 2012, the company produced its first feature film, Harag W' Marag (Chaos, Disorder). The trust that directors put in Dina Farouk came from her capability of keeping a steady editing rhythm and forcing viewers' attention where the director wants it with her smooth style. That is why most of the films she edited were box-office hits and won numerous awards at regional and international film festivals.
