Mini bio

  • Hannah Hilliard was awarded the Crystal Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for Franswa Sharl in 2010 as well as being selected across all sections of the Berlinale as a Teddy Award nominee. The film also won Best Film at the Melbourne International Film Festival and the IF Media Award for most popular film at Flickerfest.

Hannah is an AFTRS directing graduate whose first film Blame won several awards on the festival circuit. Following this she received a Young Filmmakers Fund grant towards her 20 minute drama Search. Search premiered at the Sydney Film Festival, screened at numerous international festivals including the prestigious Creteil Women Director's Festival in Paris.

Hannah has directed some of Australia's most exciting emerging acting talent including Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, The Kid's Are Alright), Callan McAuliffe (Cloudstreet, The Great Gatsby, I Am Number Four) and Jay Ryan (Beauty and the Beast, Top of the Lake). Hannah shot several blocks of Neighbours, directing talent whose star is on the rise in the US, including Pippa Black, Margot Robbie and Bella Heathcote. Hannah was also invited to direct the Flickerfest 'Star Wars' spoof trailer featuring David Wenham.

In 2011 Hannah joined global transmedia company @radical.media as a commercials director. Soon after she won two spots for the acclaimed Intel Visibly Smart campaign through Amsterdam worldwide - Jogja Jip Hop Foundation and Batik Fractal. These spots, shot in Indonesia, generated a lot of publicity worldwide and put Hannah firmly on the map as a commercials director. Her next campaign for Adidas was through Helmat Berlin further affirming Hannah's ability to work internationally on high profile brands. Hannah's recent work includes a celebrity driven Weight Watchers campaign for BMF.

Hannah was the inaugural recipient of the Screen Australia Acclaim Fund, a grant towards the development of her feature film Komodo, which is based on the true story of her Broome pearling families experience of war on a remote Indonesian island.
