Biography

Jett Garrison is an Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated writer/director whose work has screened in over 100 film festivals worldwide. As a Transgender storyteller, Jett explores themes of gender as power and the beauty of chosen family.

As a director, Jett's short film CHECKOUT earned an Emmy, and JO FM received a Student Academy Award nomination. His episodic credits include Norman Lear's CLEAN SLATE and the award-winning digital series THESE THEMS, which earned him Best Director at the Chicago Pride Film Festival and was distributed on Open Television.

As a writer, Jett staffed on Amazon Prime's GEN V (THE BOYS universe) and The CW's reboot of THE 4400, serving as an on-set writer/producer on both. His original feature script QUICK QUICK SLOW was selected for the GLAAD List (in partnership with The Black List) and was a finalist in Outfest's Screenwriting Lab.

Jett's path to storytelling is anything but conventional. After being discharged from the U.S. Air Force for being Queer, he rebuilt his life in Austin, Texas, first as a commercial radio DJ, then as a filmmaker, directing a feature documentary about radio subculture that premiered at SXSW. That film launched a career that took him to Los Angeles, where he was selected for Film Independent's Project Involve directing program (sponsored by NBCUniversal, featured in Vanity Fair), Sony's Diverse Directors Program, and Ryan Murphy's HALF Initiative.

Jett is also a voice actor, playing handyman 'Ned' in Jamie Lee Curtis' Audible series LETTERS FROM CAMP, and an active community mentor. He has taught at ActNow (LA's only LGBTQIA+ acting class) and has guided emerging filmmakers through Outfest's OutSet program and the University of Texas.

He holds an M.F.A. in Film Directing and an M.A. in Media Studies (Gender & Sexuality) from the University of Texas at Austin.
