- Su Kim is a producer committed to illuminating the cinematic poetry of people marginalized by imposed boundaries. With every one of her films, Su is interested in championing stories fighting to break through the margins. Her practice is centered on the cultivation of artistic partnerships rooted in empathy and creative excellence. Today, she is an Academy Award-nominated, two-time Emmy and Peabody winning filmmaker. Her acclaimed films include Hale County This Morning, This Evening (Academy Award nominee), Free Chol Soo Lee (Emmy winner), Bitterbrush (Telluride), and Midnight Traveler (Emmy winner). Recent projects include Sansón and Me (Tribeca), Hidden Letters (Academy Award Shortlist), and The Tuba Thieves (Sundance). Her films have premiered at top festivals such as Sundance, Berlinale, New York Film Festival and Telluride and have been distributed by PBS, Hulu, MUBI, and The Criterion Channel. Su is a member of AMPAS, BAFTA, the TV Academy and the PGA. She is also a former Women at Sundance Fellow and the recipient of the 2022 Sundance Amazon Studios Nonfiction Producers Award. Over the span of her career, Su has collaborated with some of the boldest voices in non-fiction, including RaMell Ross, Alison O'Daniel, and Rodrigo Reyes. She regularly leads workshops at UnionDocs, a center for documentary art, and mentors emerging, underrepresented artists who lack access to traditional entry points into filmmaking.
