Alex Stenhouse

Biography

  • Alex Stenhouse is director and writer working in film and theatre, originally from Bristol, England. His work has been described as "A little masterpiece" (WhatsOnStage). He has directed internationally, including the UK, America, South Korea and Japan. Alex is interested in creating bold artistic work filled with sincerity and humanity, that feels spontaneous and honest, and tells stories that feel intimate and small, but resonate much wider.

In 2024 he directed the super 8 short film 'Parting', and previously has directed live session music videos for SILK, Flo Perlin, Lily Lyons, Nils Hoffmann, Steven Weston, Calmness, Benjamin Scheuer, Høney, Sleeper Service, and Lo-Ke & Shadow Kyd. In 2024 Alex also directed a mini documentary for SILK, also shot on Super 8 film called 'Regret the Morning'.

In 2022 Alex directed the critically lauded one-man folk musical The Lion, which opened at the Southwark Playhouse, and transferred to America for a U.S. Tour, playing Arizona Theatre Company (ATC), both in Tuscon & Phoenix, as well as Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. In 2024 The Lion had a production in Daegu, South Korea, and then another in Tokyo Japan (in a Japanese language production) produced by Umeda Arts.

Alex was Playwright's Assistant on the 5x Tony Award winning Stereophonic, on its UK transfer from Broadway to the Duke of York's Theatre in London's West End, working closely with playwright David Adjmi and director Daniel Aukin. He was also Associate Director on Wonderful Town at Opera Holland Park, and Creative Team Assistant on Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
