Biography

Joséphine Japy was born on July 12, 1994 in Paris, France. She is an actress and director, known for Breathe (2014), The Wonderers (2025) and My Way (2012).

She has a degree in History and a Master's degree in Sociology from Sciences Po Lyon.

When Japy was 10 years old, she auditioned for a role in A Very Long Engagement (2004). She credits her encounter with that film's director, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, as being decisive in her desire to become an actress. Despite not getting the role, Jeunet came up to Japy after the audition and standing at her height, he told her: "Can I talk to you like an adult? Today, it won't be you, but one day, we'll meet again...". Japy said that Jeunet's words had a real resonance and made her want to hang on, believe and keep going, and if Jeunet had not taken the time to say those words to her that day, she might not have continued acting.

After co-starring in Love at Second Sight (2019), Japy and François Civil were a couple in real life from 2018 to 2021.

Learned to play the piano for Love at Second Sight (2019), in which she played a fictional famous pianist.
