Biography

Baz Kannan is an award-winning British-Indian filmmaker, writer, director, designer, editor, and VFX artist known for his contributions to the West Midlands and Tamil independent film scene in the UK. Baz graduated from grammar school and earned degrees in Economics and Computer Science from the University of Birmingham. He initially worked as a software engineer before transitioning into UX/UI Design, a technical background that heavily influences his visual precision, color philosophy, and narrative pacing as a director.

Baz first gained prominence through his technical and artistic contributions across music videos and independent narrative projects. He served as the Director of Photography (DOP), Editor, and Colorist for Shoaib Rana’s hit Urdu music video Chal Urhain, which amassed over 188,000 views on YouTube and became a popular hit in Pakistan. Additionally, he delivered the visual effects and color grading for the award-winning short film The Curse Of Kashaanti (directed by Dilraaj Kang) and spearheaded the fully VFX-driven Marvel fan film Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Stark's Redemption. The Marvel fan film featured performances by Ashwath Ram (Nandalala), Fenfen Huang (Operation Red Sea, Now You See Me 2), and Daniel Farrier (Letters From Space), earning widespread attention for its visual effects and world-building ambition.

After directing Rotten Sandwich, a 60-second short film screened at the Producer's Forum 60 Second Short Film Challenge, Baz made his award-winning directorial debut with Venomous Viper. Following the release of its teaser in 2025, which amassed over 3 million views across social media, the official Festival Cut launched its circuit run in 2026, securing an Award Winner status at the Thilsri International Film Festival. Starring Bollywood actress Mandi Sidhu, who has appeared alongside major stars like Hrithik Roshan in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan in Love Aaj Kal. Venomous Viper showcases his signature style, blending Western action with Indian cinematic DNA.

Continuing to expand his cinematic universe under Kannan Creative Productions (KCP), Baz is developing future installments and expanded lore within the Venomous Viper series alongside Phase Two projects, including the upcoming short film Outcall and his feature film in development, Lone Shark. His distinct fusion of technical post-production mastery, visual spectacle, and cross-cultural storytelling marks him as one of the most ambitious emerging voices in British-Asian cinema.
