Biography

  • Aaron Rose is a film director, writer, and artist. In the 1990s he founded the highly influential Alleged Gallery in New York. At the same time he worked as a producer/director for MTV Networks producing on-air promos. His work during this time saw collaborations with then budding directors Mike Mills, Spike Jonze and Harmony Korine. He also produced numerous underground short films during that time under the banner of Alleged Films. Since then, Rose has directed numerous films and television commercials. His award winning feature documentary film, "Beautiful Losers" (Arthouse Films/Oscilloscope Laboratories), a semi-autobiographical piece about the pressures of being a young artist began its international theatrical run in 2008. Other films include, "Become A Microscope" (2009), a short film based on the life of 1960's artist/activist nun Sister Corita, "Portraits of Braddock" (2010), a one-hour documentary film for the Independent Film Channel, "Pendarvia" (2011), a short documentary on recording artists The Decemberists as well as various other short film projects. Portraits of Braddock won a Golden Pencil award at the 2010 One Show. His first narrative feature is in the works.

In 2009, Rose was hired by advertising agency, Wieden+Kennedy to help create WKE, a content-driven entertainment channel and production house. At WKE, Rose was the producer of numerous television projects including Califunya, D.I.Y. America, and Don't Move Here, which he also directed.

Rose was co-curator of the museum exhibition "Beautiful Losers: Contemporary Art & Street Culture", which toured the world through through 2009. In 2011, he was associate curator of "Art In The Streets", an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) in Los Angeles.
