- Laura Rees is a multilingual actress based between Madrid and London, working across film, television and theatre in the UK, Spain and Europe, including international productions filming there. A native speaker of English, Spanish and French, she has working knowledge of Portuguese, German and Italian.
Rees spent her childhood involved in a variety of artistic activities including theatre, music, dance, painting and writing. Stepping onto the stage from such an early age ignited her desire to pursue a career in acting, leading her to train at Liverpool Performing Arts College at sixteen, before completing the four-year acting programme with Juan Carlos Corazza in Estudio Corazza. Her continued training has included work with James Kemp, Lorena Bayonas, Ana Gracia and Manuel Morón, alongside specialist training in voice and accents.
Rees began her theatre trajectory in the UK, in plays such as 4:48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane, or A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Shakespeare, and continued in Madrid with plays such as Terminal 3 by Lars Noren, or Three Sisters by Chekhov. Her most recent theatre credit is Nora in A Doll’s House, following a six-month run in the verbatim musical El Camino, directed by Lorena Bayonas. Selected screen credits include Ana in Netflix’s Respira; Marina in Los Dientes Largos, for which she won Best Actress at the SoCine Festival; Kate in Followers; and Kalina in Aletheia, among other projects.
Rees’s work ranges from high class eccentric characters, to young girls with inner struggles. Her roles often share a common thread: navigating mental health struggles, unresolved trauma, loneliness, mystery and complex inner worlds. She is particularly drawn to stories that explore internal and emotional turmoil, examining what remains unspoken and the experiences beneath a character’s outward behaviour.
Trained in classical piano from a very young age, Laura has often brought her musical talents into various screen and theatre projects. Her creative practice includes piano, guitar, singing, dance and painting.
