Christopher Nicholson

Biography

  • Christopher is a scientifically trained visual artist who has been professionally engaged as a Writer and Director since 1990.

His professional output includes writing and directing feature films, short films (in standard 2D, Stereo and Virtual Reality), cinema and TV commercials, documentaries, live TV Gallery directing (including news, current affairs, sport and daytime TV), music videos, experimental productions and live events. He started his career at the BBC, moved to ITV, left to run a production company for 7 years directing cinema commercials before deciding to become fully freelance as a Writer/Director specializing in narrative fiction.

Technically skilled, highly creative and always delivering on time and on budget, as a Director he has shot extensively in the UK, USA, France, Italy, Germany, Poland and Hungary and as a Writer has been commissioned to write for both the Western and non-Western markets, including China and Bollywood.

Offered the opportunity to fund the development of his own experimental production, "BlindSight", by a major Hollywood Entity, Christopher recently relocated to Los Angeles for a year, where he collaborated with DNEG, RED, ARRI, Zeiss, Pinewood Studio, Pacific Motion Control and Leica.

As a seasoned early adopter, Christopher was the first in the UK to create a cinema commercial digitally in association with Sony, first to create a commercial that incorporated live action footage in a Virtual Studio in association with Molinare, first to create a narrative drama with Vision 2 T-Grain film stock in association with Kodak and first to shoot a music video using a RED One camera.

He also designed and developed a new 3D filmmaking process called NVE®, Natural Viewing Experience, supported by BBC, 3Aality, Sony, Panavision, Panalux, and Molinare and presented at Warner Brothers in Burbank.

Christopher is an active supporter for members of the BAME community in development of careers both behind and in front of the camera and his work with disadvantaged teenagers from the Prince's Trust resulted in him receiving a personal commendation from the then HRH Prince Charles (now HRH King Charles III).
