- He was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) before being awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2009 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to sport.
- In 2012 Wiggins won the Tour de France, the first for a British cyclist.
- His long sideburns are a tribute to his favourite musician (bass) John Entwistle from the The Who, who died in 2002.
