Biography

Zoot Sims was born on October 29, 1925 in Inglewood, California, USA. He is known for The Cool of the Evening (1966), Soundstage (1974) and Rocky Mountain Jazz Party (1977). He was married to Louise. He died on March 23, 1985 in New York City, New York, USA.

Jazz and big band tenor saxophonist in the tradition of Lester Young. Renowned for his 'grooving', swinging style. Played extensively with Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw in the 1940s and 50s. Briefly with Woody Herman's Herd from 1947. Also toured with Stan Kenton and Gerry Mulligan. Co-led a quintet with fellow saxophonist Al Cohn during the 1950s and 60s.
