Biography

Morten Thorning is the creator and through 31 years (1988 - 2019) General Director of The Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark. He was born 1960 in Vejle, Denmark, the Father being the Pastor of St. Johannes Church. Through his work he has either produced or overseen, organized and financed the production facilities of more than 200 animated short films, spots, trailers, documentaries, science and communication films, as well as a big number of exhibitions, installations and immersive XR-productions. Morten has also created the different departments of education, training, talent development and artistic development of The Animation Workshop. In 2012 he founded the international Viborg Animation Festival. In 2016 he established the R & D Center for Animation, Visualization and Digital Storytelling, focusing on research and artistic development of animation and storytelling related projects within arts, culture and communication. Morten has received the Bodil-prize for his life long work for Danish animation and the Hanne Hansen Prize for his work for the Danish graphic Novel. Morten has directed the animation films Neighbors, The Escape and the Music Video War Song. He has produced or been Executive Producer on the films Solar Walk (dir: Reka Bucsi), Solar Walk Film Concert (dir: Reka Bucsi, comp: Niels Marthinsen, music Aarhus Jazz Orchestra), Gecko (dir: Morten Belvad), Simon & Squid (Dir: Jeanette Nørgaard/Nørlum Animation), Earth Girl (dir: Seoro Oh), Kawai & Epiku (dir: Moe Koyano). As a writer Morten has written more than 180 episodes of radio series for kids published by Danmarks Radio between 1984 and 1994. From 2020 he has his own production company, Bureau G, focusing on consultation, development, production, writing and financing of animation for all media.
