Pia Kirby Roycroft is a published film critic, award winning director, prosthetics artist and art department trainee.
Having worked as a critic for Film Ireland and the Young Irish Critics, as well as curating shorts programs for the Dublin International Film Festival and PRISMA Queer Film Festival, Pia has an extensive knowledge of filmmaking from both a production and criticism standpoint.
They are most known for their recent film Same Old Meat (2024), which the script for the film was nominated for a National Student Media (SMEDIA) award in Dublin in 2024. Their 2023 film Hysterics won the 'Best Horror' award at The People's Picturehouse in Cork in 2024. Though their main area of expertise is horror, they are open to other genres as well.
Pia has recently become a prosthetics & FX makeup trainee, having been taught by Ali Gordon (SomeDevilFX) and Tom McInerney (PuffJockey) and has already worked on one production, I Fear The Man I've Become (2025) directed by upcoming limerick filmmaker Devin Noonan and one short film (TBC).
They are also an art department trainee, already having worked on one professional credit, A Head Full of Ghosts (TBC).
