Mariana Silva is a Portuguese filmmaker with a strong background in audiovisual arts. Raised in Porto, she developed an early interest in cinema, which led her to pursue a professional course in audiovisual studies during her secondary education. This early training provided her with practical experience and facilitated internships in the field, setting the groundwork for her academic and professional development.

She went on to study cinema at the School of Arts of the Portuguese Catholic University, where she engaged in a wide range of creative projects, including fiction, documentary, experimental films, and audiovisual essays. During this period, Silva began to gain recognition for her work behind the camera, taking on key roles in cinematography, editing, and direction.

Her first notable work was the documentary Panem Aurorae, where she was responsible for cinematography and color grading. The film was selected for multiple film festivals both in Portugal and internationally. She continued to explore different cinematic forms through projects like the experimental short Post Human, whose poster design was nominated for a Sophia Student Award in 2023.

Silva has contributed to various projects in diverse capacities, including assistant directing and co-writing the short fiction film Red Death, and editing the fiction film There Are Monsters in the Dark. She also directed the observational documentary Of Gold, further showcasing her versatility across formats and genres.

Her growing body of work reflects a consistent interest in visual storytelling, with a focus on collaborative, multidisciplinary approaches to film production.
