Raised on Long Island, New York, son of Phyllis and Gene Klavan (the latter a well-known disc jockey and media personality) Klavan has been a prolific writer of novels, plays, screenplays and graphic novels, many of these works in collaboration with his wife, Susan Kim, and at least one screenplay with his brother, Andrew Klavan. Another brother, Ross, is also a writer.
