Biography

Joe Haymes was born on February 10, 1907 in Marshfield, Missouri, USA. He is known for Royal Society Jazz Orchestra (1986). He died on July 10, 1964 in Dallas, Texas, USA.

Eventually quit band leading, and, by the late 1940's, worked for CBS in New York.

Self-taught pianist and former circus performer, who began his musical career as an arranger for the Ted Weems Orchestra. Haymes later organised several dance bands of his own. He had a knack for hiring outstanding musicians, such as Toots Mondello, Bud Freeman, Zeke Zarchy, Paul Weston, Ward Sillaway and Pee Wee Erwin. However, his lack of business acumen resulted in many of these people defecting to other orchestras (Tommy Dorsey took over Haymes's entire outfit in 1935 after splitting from his brother).

Haymes recorded not only under his own name but under a variety of different aliases, including The Radio Rascals, Karl Snyder & His Orchestra, Roy Wager & His Orchestra, Jimmy Underwood & His Orchestra, The Williams Cotton Club Orchestra, Mike Doty & His Orchestra, Dick Clark & His Orchestra, Elliot Everett & His Orchestra and The Mad Hatters.
