Jorge Rafael Videla(1925-2013)
Jorge Rafael Videla was an Argentine military officer and dictator who led the country from 1976 to 1981 after a coup d'état. As head of the military junta, he oversaw Argentina's Dirty War, during which thousands of people were tortured, disappeared, and killed. Videla's regime targeted political dissidents, activists, and even students. He was a key figure in Operation Condor, a coordinated campaign of repression across South America. After democracy returned, Videla was convicted of crimes against humanity and sentenced to life in prison. He died in 2013 while incarcerated.
