  • Khaldoun H. Shami, a scholar and documentary filmmaker, focuses particularly on issues of secularism and minority groups in the Middle East and Latin America. He is a lecturer and researcher at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK. His research interests are primarily centered on ethnographic documentary and alternative radio. His selected filmography includes: Secular - AaLaMaNi (2025), Palm to Palm (2019), Aghwar Voice (2015), Headstone (2014), Rohani (2009), Halemeh (2003). He has held academic positions at various institutions across the Middle East and possesses substantial experience as a producer and filmmaker. He has worked with Theatre Royal England, Al-Jazeera Network, Save the Children Japan, and has worked with "Orang Asli" communities in both Malaysia and Thailand. Shami has been the recipient of several awards, including the National Media Award for documentary film (Kuala Lumpur, 2009), the Jakarta Vice-Governor's Award for Relief (2008), and the University of Jordan Excellence Award. Shami holds a Doctor of Philosophy in documentary film from the University of East Anglia in Norwich and a Master of Arts from Brunel University of London, Uxbridge.
