Finbarre Snarey is a British arts and culture journalist, tarot researcher, producer and creative technologist based in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. He is the creator and host of Tarot Interviews, an interview series that uses randomly drawn tarot cards to structure conversations with writers, musicians and other cultural figures, and its text-based companion series Tarot DMs.
Snarey is also the founder and curator of the British Tarot Archive. His research focuses on the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot, tarot history and heritage, and the use of chance-based or aleatory methods in interviewing and cultural practice. His work has included research presented at Goldsmiths, University of London, and involvement in work documenting Rider-Waite-Smith tarot reading as living heritage in the UK.
His interview work has featured authors, musicians and artists including Joanne Harris, Adrian Tchaikovsky, Lauren Beukes, C.B. Lee and Lucy Rose. Drawing on a background in broadcasting, journalism and live cultural events, Snarey's work combines cultural reporting, experimental interview formats and research into the history and continuing cultural life of tarot.
