She graduated from Rutgers University, attending the conservatory Mason Gross School of the Arts. (BFA).

The films, Sophie's Choice (1982) and Coal Miner's Daughter (1980) inspired her to want to be an actress when she was a child.

She was nominated for a 2006 Ovation Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play. She was honored the distinction for her performance in the American Premiere of "I Capture the Castle.".

Her mother is Brazilian and her father is American.
