Philip Scott Bailey
- Music Department
Philip Scott Bailey, known professionally as Phil Derihl, is an American composer, producer, and songwriter based in Maryland. Born in Bethesda, Maryland, he began his musical journey early, influenced by his sister's piano playing and his brother's recording work. He developed a passion for music through poetry at age 8 and began producing music for local Go-Go bands in Washington, D.C. by the age of 15.
As a self-taught musician, Bailey quickly became proficient in piano, bass guitar, and drums. He began working with digital audio software at 17 while attending Morgan State University and went on to collaborate with numerous independent artists in the Mid-Atlantic region.
In 2019, Bailey landed his first TV placement on BET Network with the film Angrily Ever After, earning eight music placements in a single production. This marked the beginning of his transition into professional music composition for film and television.
In 2021, he joined S&B Publishing through a connection with fellow artist Esan Myers. By 2023, Bailey signed an album deal with BMG Production Music, leading to music placements on major networks including CBS, Netflix, BET, MTV, VH1, and Showtime. In 2025, he completed a collaborative album with Universal Production Music alongside composer Bustafunk.
Phil Derihl continues to expand his portfolio as a composer for screen, blending emotional depth with dynamic instrumentation to elevate storytelling across visual media.
