Joyce Alimu is a South Sudanese filmmaker, cinephile, and visual artist based in Nairobi. She studied film and TV production at the Africa Digital Media Institute, supported by the Netflix Creative Equity Fund and Heva Fund. Her film professional experience varies from roles such as scriptwriter, producer, director, photographer, storyboarder, cinematographer, production designer, creative director, and many more. She produced and directed short films that earned her various accolades. She produced short films like Mapacha under ADMI for the 48-hour film Competition in Nairobi, securing an award for best cinematography and a mention for best editing in the competition. It went to receive official selections on both local and international festivals and awards, such as Kitale Film Week, Africa Magic Viewer's Choice AMVC 2024, and Lift-off Global Network Sessions 2024. League of Traps, another short film produced by her, was selected for festivals such as Eldoret Film Festival and Africa Magic Viewer's Choice AMVC 2024, Lift-off Global Network Sessions She also co-wrote and directed Higher’ed, a short film that got selected for the Lift-off Session first-time Filmmakers session 2024 and earned her a nomination for best director -student film in the Women in Film Award (WIFA Kenya). She was also a production designer in the all-female crew short film, Fatherhood, which was screened in Kenya in Kitale Film Week, Juiced Film festival, and is now streaming on NW Plus TV, a video-on -demand platform. She was also a juror on the 8th Kenya International Sports Film Festival 2025-Hybrid Edition
