- Esther Kartiganer was born on January 14, 1938 in Berlin, Germany. She was an editor and producer, known for 60 Minutes (1968), 60 Minutes II (1999) and TV Land Legends: The 60 Minutes Interviews (2002). She died on August 1, 2012 in Aspen, Colorado, USA.
- She immigrated with her family to the United States from Germany in 1939. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Kartiganer and sister-in-law, Audrey Kartiganer; niece, Deborah Kartiganer Tanno and her husband, Constantin Tanno; niece, Alison Kartiganer; grand-nephew, Nicholas Tanno; and grand niece, Christina Tanno. She is survived by lifelong friend, Audrey Feuerstein and her husband, Harvey Feuerstein and sons, Eric Feuerstein and Mark Feuerstein.
- She studied at Bronx High School of Science in Bronx, New York. She majored in political science at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
- She served on the Brandeis College Women's Board from 1992 to 2012 (Co-chair of the board from 2010 to 2012). In 2007, an award, the Esther Kartiganer Prize in Excellence in Journalism was established by the Brandeis College Women's Center.
- After retiring from CBS, she served as a mediator in the New York City Civil Courts and a member of the Institutional Review Board of Columbia University Medical Center.
- She was raised in the Washington Heights section of New York City.
