Sandi Higgins was born and raised in the USA. She moved to France for three years in her twenties and became fluent in French. From a young age, Sandi was drawn to the sustainable wisdom of Indian philosophy and Hindu, Buddhist, and Sufi spirituality. She has made several pilgrimages in the Indian subcontinent to study and practice yoga, meditation, and music.
Sandi grew up with her single mother in New Jersey and her father and stepmother in New York. Her mother, Wendy Higgins, worked as an ESL teacher and a real estate agent to support her kids after the divorce. Her father, William F. Higgins Jr., was a special agent in the FBI and then served as a captain in the US Naval Reserves and ran a real estate business. Her stepmother, Barbara Corcoran, founded a leading real estate firm in NYC and became an author and famous TV personality on Shark Tank (2009). Sandi has been particularly inspired by her grandmothers, very different women who each left an imprint by their strength of character.
As a young and emerging female filmmaker, Sandi worked on the crews of several major international films including The Interpreter (2005) with Oscar-winning director Sydney Pollack. She also wrote, translated, and performed theater shows and produced videos for musicians and multicultural organizations, including the Indo-American Arts Council and Karuna-Shechen Humanitarian Projects in the Himalayas.
After experiencing post-traumatic stress and burnout in the industry, Sandi shifted gears to become a yoga teacher, fitness instructor, and wellness professional. She also moved her home base from New York City to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and then to the Gulf Coast of Florida. These career and lifestyle changes led to greater well-being that prioritizes both self-care and environmental care. It also provided time and space to rediscover the real therapeutic value of the performing arts through improvisation and community theater.
Her love of storytelling revolves around its healing potential and power to awaken human consciousness from egocentric stagnation to ecocentric activation to restore balance with our beautiful Earth.
