Biography

Simon Parkin is an award-winning British television and radio presenter, journalist, event host and actor. A broadcaster for more than 30 years, he became a familiar face through his work with the BBC on Children’s BBC, Top of the Pops, The O Zone and But First This, before crossing to "the dark side" aka ITV in 1992 as one of the launch presenters of GMTV. He later worked across the ITV network for Granada, HTV West, Westcountry and Meridian, where he presented the weather until 2017.

Parkin originally dreamed of becoming an actor, but at the age of seven decided being a DJ might be easier than playing James Bond. This was a traumatic time that left him shaken, but not stirred... After learning his craft on hospital radio in Teesside, he joined Radio Tees in 1987 before moving into television on the legendary Children’s BBC "Broom Cupboard", keeping a bit of radio on the side with appearances on BBC GLR and BBC Radio Five. He now presents the weekday news and magazine programme on BBC Radio Somerset and has returned to acting in short films and television shows like Rivals Series 2.
