    While on set shooting a movie in December of 1988 Ryûtarô Gan stabbed and killed actor Yukio Katô who at the time was 34. Kato was taken to the Okayama University Hospital where he was pronounced dead after following profuse bleeding due to being cut in the neck by a sword. He was accused of professional negligence and would later state in court that he did not know the sword was real.
