Biography

Maurice André was born on May 21, 1933 in Alès, Gard, France. He was an actor, known for Georg Friedrich Händels Auferstehung (1980), Das Sonntagskonzert (1969) and L'invité du dimanche (1968). He was married to Liliane. He died on February 25, 2012 in Bayonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France.

Son of a coal miner and amateur trumpet player. He worked in the coal mines at 14 years old for four years. He began playing the cornet as a boy and later switched to the trumpet. He studied at the Paris Music Conservatory in Paris, France where military band members received free tuition. He joined the Eighth Regiment Band stationed at Mont-Valerien outside Paris. He graduated from the Paris Conservatory in 1953.

He is survived by his wife, Liliane Andre of Bayonne, France; a son, Nicolas Andre, trumpeter; and daughter, Beatrice Andre, an oboist.

Virtuoso trumpeter who specialized in classical music.
