Biography

Andrew Wyeth was born on July 12, 1917 in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, USA. He was an actor, known for Andrew Wyeth: Self Portrait - Snow Hill (1995), Smithsonian World (1984) and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood (1968). He was married to Betsy Wyeth. He died on January 16, 2009 in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, USA.

He was awarded the 2007 National Medal of the Arts for his services to the arts.

One of the most famous American artists of the 20th century. Most well known painting is "Christina's World".

On 12 July 2017, the 100th anniversary of his birth, 12 of his paintings were issued on a set of USA nondenominated commemorative postage stamps. The dozen stamps were issued in a single pane. The first-day-of-issue ceremony took place in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, Wyeth's hometown. The price of each stamp on day of issue was 49¢. The paintings depicted on the stamps, in the order in which they appear in the pane, are Wind from the Sea (1947), Big Room (1988), Christina's World (1948), Alvaro and Christina (1968), Frostbitten (1962), Sailor's Valentine (1985), Soaring (1942-50), North Light (1984), Spring Fed (1967), The Carry (2003), Young Bull (1960), and My Studio (1974).

Son of artist Newell Convers " N. C.." Wyeth (October 22, 1882 - October 19, 1945) and father of artist Jamie Wyeth.

I don't paint these hills around Chadds Ford because they're better than the hills somewhere else. It's that I was born here, lived here -- things have a meaning for me. I do an awful lot of thinking and dreaming about things in the past and the future -- the timelessness of the rocks and the hills -- all the people who have existed there.
