Biography

James Gilbert grew up in Palm Bay, Florida, USA, which is where his passion for film began.

His passion grew naturally, and he just began watching more and more and wanting to see how those elements were achieved. In his ninth and twelfth-grade years of high school, he took classes that involved filmmaking, allowing him to learn some of the techniques involved in filmmaking fairly early, as well as creating some skills before they would need to be used.

After high school, he went to Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, in the degree program for film at the bachelor's level. Upon first arriving at film school, he had the idea that he was going to be a writer-director, but overtime learned that he didn't have the passion for that. Instead, the grip department was where he felt most at home.

After making that realization, the majority of the credits he acquired were in the grip department. That's where he wanted to spend most of his time, and that's where he felt the most comfortable.
