Biography

Recognized as the first Brazilian artist to publicly assume his homosexuality, Edy Star became a symbol of resistance, freedom and expression in national culture.

In the 1990s, he moved to Spain, where he acted in the theater and produced shows in nightclubs. He lived there for 18 years and then returned to Brazil.

He worked in sophisticated nightclubs in Rio de Janeiro, such as Number One and Up's, as well as alternative locations such as Praça Mauá.

Edy Star stood out for bold presentations and for openly challenging gender and sexuality patterns at a time when this was unusual.

Edy Star began his artistic career as a teenager, participating in the program "A Hora da Criança", on Rádio Sociedade da Bahia.
