She is an enrolled tribal member at the Ft. Peck Reservation in Montana.

She is the daughter of casting director Angelique Midthunder and Native American actor David Midthunder.

She and her father David Midthunder act in Longmire (2012), respectively as Lilly Stillwater and David Ridges.

Her directorial debut short film Don't (2013) won in its category at its premiere screening at the 2013 Native Cinema Showcase presented by Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian.

Member of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux tribes. Her father is from Montana. Her paternal grandmother was Assiniboine, and her paternal grandfather had Norwegian ancestry, with the family name originally being "Midthun." Amber's mother was born in Bangkok, Thailand, of English and Chinese descent.

She co-directed #nightslikethese (2013) with Shay Eyre, daughter of director Chris Eyre.

Appeared in two back-to-back 2021 movies with Liam Neeson, The Marksman (2021) and The Ice Road (2021).
