Biography

At just 19 years old, typographer and film editor Ethan Sinconis is emerging as one of the most distinctive young title designers working today. Originally from Seattle, Washington, and later relocating to Phoenix, Arizona, Sinconis is entirely self-taught and entered the field without a mentor or formal training. He first developed an interest in typography and visual storytelling at the age of five, and began working professionally at 15. He later co-founded Sinconis Studios with his twin brother, Aidan Sinconis, in 2016.

Known for his striking opening titles and distinctive editing style, Sinconis’ body of work has drawn the attention of many of the world’s leading designers, typographers, and filmmakers, earning recognition from industry professionals, countless international film festivals, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

His first film, Passions, edited during his sophomore year of high school, received nine film festival laurels and later earned a Copper Wing Award at the Phoenix Film Festival.

His second film, I’m Fine, produced with Aidan Sinconis during his junior year of high school and featuring hand-lettered titles by Sinconis, earned three National Student Production Award nominations and two wins from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, topping over 2,000 entries from across the United States. The film was also featured by ABC15 News and praised by executives at National Geographic and top independent directors at the Phoenix Film Festival.

His senior-year project, I Am, received national news coverage from USA Today, Chicago Tribune, Peoria Independent, Washington Blade, and Shoutout Arizona.

Sinconis resides at Huntington University studying film and graphic design. In the future, Ethan hopes to expand Sinconis Studios, re-build title design departments at studios including Pixar, Disney, and DreamWorks, and collaborate with title studios like Imaginary Forces, Picture Mill, Digital Kitchen, Filmograph, and Prologue.

Claims his favored opening title sequence is Wayne Fitzgerald's work for Total Recall (1990).

Early on, Ethan studied the work of designers Susan Bradley, Burke Mattsson, and Nina Saxon, and studios Pacific Title, Buena Vista Imaging (Disney's subsidiary title house), R/Greenberg Associates, and Imaginary Forces. His initial goal was to work at Pacific Title before learning of their closure. His plans changed, and because of this Sinconis Studios formed an emphasis on main title design, along with documentary film, digital art, and branding and animation work.
