Biography

Douglas Marriner, musician and actor, makes his major motion picture debut as W.S "Fluke" Holland in Disney/Searchlight Pictures 'A Complete Unknown' (2024), starring Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan and Edward Norton as Pete Seeger. The Bob Dylan biopic, directed by James Mangold with Bob Dylan himself as Executive Producer, features Marriner in the role of Johnny Cash's drummer W.S Holland - "The Father Of The Drums" and longtime member of Cash's band The Tennessee Three.

Known for his expertise in various vintage drumming styles, Marriner was sought out for the role of W.S Holland for A Complete Unknown in 2024 between touring engagements with Violinist Joshua Bell, composer Vince Mendoza and chamber orchestra The Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

Douglas' grandfather, Sir Neville Marriner, was the Musical Director of the Academy Award winning film Amadeus - and as founder of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra is widely considered to be one of the greatest conductors of all time.

His father Andrew Marriner, as Principal Clarinet of the London Symphony Orchestra, performed on many of the great John Williams film scores including the soundtracks to Star Wars and Harry Potter.

Douglas Marriner has also featured in the FX/Hulu television series 'Feud: Capote Vs The Swans' featuring Tom Hollander and Demi Moore. Marriner appears as the Orchestra Drummer during Truman Capote's infamous Black and White Ball of 1966 at The Plaza Hotel in New York City in the episode Masquerade 1966.

As a jazz drummer, Douglas performs with artists including Joshua Bell, Vince Mendoza, Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Terry Waldo's Gotham City Band, Alexa Tarantino Quartet, Shai Maestro, Donny McCaslin, Academy of St Martin In The Fields, Andy Farber Quartet and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Douglas is also a passionate educator and broadcaster, and has presented live concerts for BBC Radio 3.
