Eli Zazu was born Eliezer Benzion Bates to Jewish American parents, Tovah and Michael Bates, both Doctors. Zazu was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Before he became a Director, he aspired to become a singer and songwriter, but found his love for filmmaking in 2012.
Zazu’s directorial debut was Little Rich Lives (2025), a drama/comedy about a group of friends spending one last night together before going their separate ways. Prior to this, Zazu produced and directed over 20 short films, including Purple (2024) and 80 Grand (2024).
