Biography

Don Maynard was born on January 25, 1935 in Crosbyton, Texas, USA. He was married to Marilyn Weaver and Anna. He died on January 10, 2022 in Ruidoso, New Mexico, USA.

Professional football player. Wide receiver with the New York Giants (1958), New York Titans/Jets (1960-1972), and St. Louis Cardinals (1973).

Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987.

Retired as a St. Louis Cardinal in 1973.

When he retired in 1973, he was pro football's career receiving leader with 633 catches for 11,834 yards and 88 touchdowns, all records at that time. The Jets retired his No. 13 jersey.

I don't really look at it like I'm the greatest receiver. After you play awhile, anybody can break certain records. Longevity is the key. The record I'm proudest of is being the first guy to get 10,000 yards in receptions. Others may do it, but I'm the first, and only one guy can be the first.
