Biography

Illia Freiman

Biography

  • Illia Freiman is a director and journalist from Ukraine who found his place in the world of creativity despite challenges and life changes. His journey began in Odesa, where a love for art was a family tradition. He transitioned from a career in economics but eventually returned to his true calling - creating and sharing stories.

Illia was born in Odesa into a family where art was an inseparable part of life. His mother was a TV host and actress, his father a businessman with a keen interest in creativity, and his grandparents devoted their lives to the stage. From a young age, Illia loved inventing stories. Despite this creative atmosphere, his family believed a career should be stable and secure. This perspective led Illia to study economics at university and later work in banking. However, after a few years, he realized he could not imagine life without creativity and embarked on a new chapter as a journalist.

Illia began his journalism career in 2016 and quickly transitioned to directing documentaries and television programs. Within two years, he was leading the directing department at the TV channel "Southern Wave" and later at the TV channel "Inshy". Among his notable projects are the documentaries In Memory of Mykhailo Bazylevskyi, Sunny Petya, and Pioneers, and TV shows such as Not My Cup of Tea and Dark Craft.

In 2022, following the war in Ukraine, Illia moved to Romania, where he continued developing his projects. It was there that he directed his first film, Little Captain, which received the Grand Prix at the Euroshorts International Film Festival in Poland.
