Biography

Dick Weber was a professional bowler who was a founding member of the Professional Bowlers Association and a frequent finalist in bowling competitions televised in the United States throughout the 1960s. Weber began his career in the sport as an after-school employee at a bowling alley, where the owner permitted him and other pinsetters to play for free during off-hours. It was the start of one of the most successful bowling careers in history.

After years of bowling for little money in after-midnight bouts while working as a street photographer and a postal clerk, Weber was approached in 1955 to join one of the first professional bowling teams in the United States, the Budweisers of St. Louis. Weber's share of the prize in his first tournament appearance with the team, which included future luminaries Don Carter, Ray Bluth, Tom Hennessey, and Pat Patterson, was $200, which was the same amount he earned in four weeks at the post office.

The Budweisers dominated the rapidly expanding sport in the late 1950s, and Weber quickly became one of the most regular winners in individual events sponsored by the PBA after its inception in 1958. He won four national solo match game championships and four national doubles titles, all alongside Bluth. Weber extended his winning streak even after being inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 1975. In 2002, he became the first bowler to win a PBA title in six straight decades.
