Scottish rock band named after Archduke Franz Ferdinand, whose assassination in 1914 triggered the First World War.

The band members are Alex Kapranos (vocals, guitar), Bob Hardy (bass guitar), Paul Thomson (drums, backing vocals).

Won the 2004 Mercury Prize Award.

First album is self-titled, released February 2004.

Second album is called You Can Have It So Much Better, and was released October 3, 2005.

Originally going to have a color scheme with albums, just like Weezer, but named their second album 'You Could Have It So Much Better'.

Third album, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, released in January 2009.

Rapper Ye stated that Franz Ferdinand was his favorite band at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Fourth album, "Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action", released in August 2013.
