Biography

Brian Patten was born on February 7, 1946 in Liverpool, Merseyside, England, UK. He was a writer, known for Jackanory (1965), Shadows (1975) and The Life of a Ten Pound Note (2003). He was married to Linda Cookson. He died on September 29, 2025 in Torbay, Devon, England, UK.

Left school at fifteen, becoming a junior reporter on The Bootle Times, while writing occasional music columns for the local music paper, The Mersey Beat.

Grew up in Liverpool.

Had been honoured with the Freedom of the City of Liverpool, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and of both Liverpool University and John Moores University as well as The Open University.
