Jimmy Johnstone was born on September 30, 1944 in Viewpark, Scotland, UK. He was married to Agnes Johnstone. He died on March 13, 2006 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK.

In June 2005, became the first living person since the time of the Tsars to have a Fabergé Egg designed in his honor. The egg was designed by Carl Fabergé's granddaughter Sarah.

Was voted the greatest player who ever played for Celtic by Celtic fans.
