Marta Martín Bueno is a young Catalan director and screenwriter. She graduated in Cinematography from ESCAC (Higher School of Cinema and Audiovisuals of Catalonia), where she also recently completed her Master's degree in Directing. As a filmmaker, she explores cinema that emerges from personal experiences, using memories as raw material. Although her stories are often based on personal experiences, they always incorporate a magical element that transcends reality. Her works are characterized by the creation of unique and detail-rich universes, providing a solid and enriching backdrop for her narratives. Death and memory are central themes in her still-brief career, reflecting a deep contemplation of these aspects in her works. In fiction, Marta directed Arenillas as her first short film. It takes us to Burgos through the eyes of Ana, a girl who experiences events that blur the line between reality and fiction. The story explores Ana's confrontation with the recent loss of her father. This autobiographical tale was filmed in Arenillas de Villadiego, the hometown of Marta's paternal grandmother, where both she and her father spent their childhood summers. The short film is set to premiere at the 69th edition of SEMINCI and it is on distribution. Throughout her career, Marta participated in the development of Paola, a documentary that follows the daily life of Paola and gives voice to sex workers facing the stigma associated with their profession. This project won the DOC-U award at DocsBarcelona 2022 and the Audience Award at Mecal 2023. Additionally, Paola was selected for Fipadoc and the Reteena Festival and it is currently on distribution. She is developing her next short film, El desencanto, produced by Escac Films and Persi Motion Pictures.
