Eke Rolf Laan

Born in Tallinn, Estonia, he is the son of Tuuli Talviste-Laan, a philologist and English teacher, and Hillar Laan, a chauffeur. His artistic journey began on stage at an early age. At six, he made his first stage appearance as part of a kindergarten production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, later participating in several school plays throughout basic school. At the age of eight, he began training in dance, performing on stage while also competing as a dancesport athlete. His early experience in movement, performance, and live theatre eventually developed into a broader interest in acting and filmmaking, leading him to transition increasingly toward screen acting during his secondary-school years. From a young age, he developed a strong interest in history and geography, with a particular fascination for places, landscapes, and the historical development of cities. These interests continued alongside his early involvement in the performing arts and later found an outlet in filmmaking. He graduated from Tallinn Secondary School of Science in 2021 and completed his general secondary education at Tallinn French School in 2024. During his school years, his academic interest in history and geography led him to research and write Tallinna radadel: Härjapea (2022) , a short historical documentary exploring the history and significance of the Härjapea River in Tallinn. The film has since been used by several schools as an educational resource in Estonian history classes, becoming one of his earliest projects to combine his academic interests with his growing passion for storytelling and film. Alongside his filmmaking interests, he pursued acting training at Polygon Theatre School and continued developing his craft through film-school productions, working both in front of and behind the camera. His transition from dance and stage performance to acting on screen was marked by his first screen appearance at the age of 18, when he played the lead role in Narkissos Contemporarius (2024) a short film offering a contemporary retelling of the myth of Narcissus. He later appeared in the feature film The Swedish Torpedo (2024), marking his involvement in a larger-scale professional production. At 19, he was cast in several coming-of-age dramas, including Loov/tusetu (2025), in which he plays Sander, a high school student in a story about a young girl confronting a creative block, and Pink ehk elude ristmik (2025), portraying Lars in a film following the intersecting lives of young people around a park bench. His artistic development has also been shaped by guidance and mentorship from acclaimed Estonian theatre director and actor Elmo Nüganen and actor Indrek Sammul, with whom he collaborated on Dirt in Your Face (2026).
